Zombie Chickens.
A page that sells the game and hides the deal.

This is a public teardown: a free sample of how we read a campaign, open for anyone to discuss.

We read the page the way a backer does, and note what should change.

A full review goes further: the rewards, every number, and your other assets. Compare
The page in four numbers
How a backer experiences this page, measured.
Words in real text: needs work
7%
of the story’s words are real text: about 120 of 1,700. The rest are inside images, so they can’t be searched, translated or read aloud.
Scroll to the first price: needs work
60%
of the way down the story. On a phone, the rules, zombies and defenses all come first.
See the pledge levelsAverage pledge: on target
$48.88
$18,575 from 380 backers. 83% of them chose the $30 or $77 tier, so the bundles did their job.
Left unanswered: needs work
3
questions a careful backer has to ask in the comments, because the page doesn’t answer them.
See the 3
- Have you made and shipped games before? The team section doesn’t say, though earlier Sweet Bros games are in the Ultimate tier.
- What does the $77 tier save? Its card says $55 off MSRP; the add-on prices on the same page make it $15.
- Who are Matt, Ryan, Susan, Chip and Eric? Five five-star quotes, first names only.
TL;DR
A fun, well-drawn page that funded 3.7 times over and shipped on schedule. It spends almost a quarter of the story teaching the rules before showing a price, puts nearly all its words inside pictures, and measures every saving against a list price the game no longer has.
Their page
Welcome to Zombie Chickens

Lexo’s noteFix
A good opening, and all of it is a picture.
The art, the pitch and the 1–4 players / ages 9+ / 35 min badges are clear and fun. They are also all inside images, so they can’t be searched, translated or read aloud, and on a phone the badges are small.
Keep the art. Put one line of real text under it that says what the game is, who it’s for and what it costs.
About the game

Lexo’s noteFix
A quarter of the story teaches the rules before it shows a price.
From here to “How it ends”, about 23% of the story, the page teaches the game: day, night, an example round, events. Then come the zombies and the defenses. The first price in the story is 60% of the way down.
On desktop the reward column sits beside the story. On a phone it doesn’t, and a backer who wants to know what’s in the box and what it costs scrolls past all of this first. Move “What’s included” and a short pledge summary up, straight after the opening, and let the rules follow, with the video and the instruction PDFs for the detail.
Night

An example night

Lexo’s noteCut
A worked example nobody needs before pledging.
About 7% of the story walks through two players’ first night, card by card. It answers a question few backers have yet: how exactly does a turn go?
Replace it with a short GIF or one three-panel strip, and link the instruction PDFs for anyone who wants the full turn.

How it ends

Two more ways to play

Meet the zombies

Lexo’s noteCut
The zombies, shown twice.
All 16 zombies already appeared as a card grid in the Night section. This roster shows them again with the same trait tags, over about 13% of the story, and the card text is too small to read without zooming.
Keep one: the roster is the more fun to read, so drop the grid above or cut this to the six best characters.
Your defenses

Lexo’s noteCut
The defenses, also shown twice.
The Day section already showed the defense cards. This section repeats them over about 9% of the story.
Fold the best two or three lines into the Day section and cut the rest. Together with the zombies, that takes about a fifth of the story off the scroll to the pledges.
What’s included

Dark Night expansion

Lexo’s noteFix
The pledge most backers chose, with a typo on a card.
225 of 380 backers chose the $30 tier, which adds this Kickstarter-only expansion. It is the strongest reason on the page to back now rather than wait for retail, and it starts more than halfway down.
The new defense card shown here reads “GRENDADE”. Worth checking whether that reached print.
Pledge levels

Lexo’s noteFix
Every saving rests on a $30 price the game no longer has.
The reward cards measure each saving against a $30 MSRP: “33% off” on $20, the same game at $20 plus the $10 expansion on $30, and “Save $55 off MSRP” on $77. The sums work on those terms.
But the game now sells for $19.99 at retail, so a backer comparing today sees no saving at all. And the add-ons on this same page price the Ultimate’s contents at $92, so anyone adding it up sees $15 off, not $55. Show the saving a backer can check on the page, and lean on what is exclusive: the first edition and the expansion.
Add-ons

Stretch goals

The upgraded game box AND tracker stretch goals are both unlocked!
Shipping and taxes

Lexo’s noteFix
A clear table, where shipping costs more than the game.
The table is clear and covers the main countries. But outside the US every listed rate is more than the $20 game (UK $29, Australia $37), and it sits several screens below the first price. Backers raised it in the comments while the campaign was live.
The reward cards also say “Ships to: anywhere in the world”, while this section lists nine countries it can’t ship to. Put the landed total beside each tier, for example “$20 + about $29 to the UK”, and set the shipping countries to match this list.
Meet the team

Lexo’s noteFix
Four names and four jokes, and no track record, though they have one.
For a first-time Kickstarter creator, the strongest reassurance is “we have made and shipped games before”. Sweet Bros had: earlier games are in the Ultimate tier, and the creator says so in a reply in the comments. The team section never does.
Say it here in one line. Small one: “entusiasts” should be “enthusiasts”.

Risks and challenges
When you pledge to our project, please note that the materials and final design may change, resulting in a slightly different end product than what is shown on this page.
Remember that your pledge amount does not cover shipping costs. Refer to the shipping information section for more details.
Please confirm your pledge, address, and necessary information within the specified timeframe. If you fail to confirm within 8 weeks of receiving our email notification, we consider our obligations fulfilled. However, if you contact us afterward, we may refund your payment or ship your pledge at our discretion.
If we are unable to deliver your rewards after two unsuccessful attempts to the provided address, you will be responsible for additional shipping costs.
While we have prepared diligently for manufacturing and are confident in our ability to produce high-quality products and fulfill perks on time, unforeseen challenges can arise. Here are a couple of the challenges that could arise:
MANUFACTURING: We have a trusted manufacturer with on-site quality assurance. Despite this, delays can occur due to backlogs, holidays, or quality issues. We will promptly notify you of any such circumstances, prioritizing product quality and timely delivery.
FULFILLMENT: Unplanned events like missed deadlines, customs delays, lost shipments, or other unexpected shipping disruptions can cause delays. We are using an experienced logistics team and will maintain transparent communication to keep you informed about your product's whereabouts and delivery timeline.
Lexo’s noteFix
Reads like terms and conditions, with the good part last.
Before any risk is named, the section covers design changes, shipping costs, and what happens to backers who don’t confirm or aren’t home. “We consider our obligations fulfilled” is the sentence a nervous backer remembers.
The reassuring part, a trusted manufacturer with on-site quality checks and an experienced logistics team, comes last. Lead with it, say how far production already is, and name the November date.
Environmental commitments
Visit our Environmental Resources Center to learn how Kickstarter encourages sustainable practices.
Long-lasting design We are using 310 GSM black core card stock for the playing cards, which we have found to be very durable and long-lasting.
Sustainable materials All game components will be made of recyclable cardboard and paper material.
